make sure you purchase AC adapter.
If you want to weigh something on a table not near a wall socket, then the battery function works fine.
But on the counter it is easy to keep plugged in.
2. Stable, accurate and convenient kitchen scale
I have worn out 3 battery powered kitchen scales. This one can accept a power cord, and is more stable and versatile than others I have used. The back light only works when it is plugged into the optional "Escali 9VAD 9-Volt AC Adapter for Escali Scales". The tray lifts off for cleaning, although I keep a piece of saran wrap draped over the scale for safe keeping.

Very nice scale. I use it for measuring ingredients for making soap. Lightweight, easy to use. Love the 'Tare' funtion and the back light is a big help. Highly recommened.
