Worth the money
The large digital display is easy to read and it's simple to use. The instructions say to leave it turned on for 24 hours before using it for the first time and if not used for about a month or more. I thought that was a kind of a strange requirement. Other than that, it works fine.

1. A very good upgrade
I previously had an American Weigh Gemini-20 scale I would use in my research, which is similar to this but slightly less accurate. I recently began pharmacodynamic characterization studies of a few compounds for which the greater accuracy provided by this scale would be beneficial.

Relative to the Gemini 20, the build quality is much higher, and the attention to detail is much finer. The scale body, the cover, even the mating of the battery door to the unit just scream of "somebody actually thought about this". My Gemini 20, while reasonably accurate, always sort of half-felt like it could just randomly disintegrate if you picked it up too fast. There's also a very nicely placed mating set of concentric rings between the load cell and the weighing dishes, making it impossible for the dish to slip and contact the scale body. No dime mod needed here!

The accessories it comes with all seem higher-quality too. A very nice vinyl zipcase with foam padded cutouts for...

2. Better than the Gemini-20
The design lends itself to accurate, easy measurement. Accurate to within about +/- 3mg, which isn't bad for a scale of this price. Comes with two trays, two calibration weights, and a nice storage case. I previously had the Gemini 20, and it was useless. Unless the tray was seated meticulously, the scale would be off drastically. I was a bit apprehensive to get this one after my experience with the Gemini-20, but it's a great scale for the money. I wish it came with a metal tray instead of just a plastic one, but that's not a big issue.

Terrific for the price.
This is the best small scale I've come across for the price. I was skeptical about
accuracy down to .001 gram, but I tested this against other scales and it really is
excellent.

I would have liked to have the tray a bit larger, but I am not complaining.

Comes with calibration weights, instructions, and a handy case which fits everything very
nicely and makes it ideal for travel. Without the case, the scale can fit it one's pocket.

1. EatSmart Digital Nutrition Scale: Good & not so good
I looked at many digital nutrition scales online before purchasing this one. Having Type I Diabetes and being a "carb" counter, it was time for an update and I kept going back to this one and was looking forward to using it. I thought I wanted all the bells and whistles it has to offer. While I like the general size and design for weighing, especially the ease of the tare feature, from then on it goes downhill for me. Visually, I am having great difficulty and my husband, who has excellent eye sight agrees - it is tough to read the LCD display which is considerably smaller than it appears online. Also, it gives so much information that I have found I'm having to ignore what isn't essential for me and fccus on what information I mostly need - carbs plus calories and fats or protein plus calories and fats, etc. You have to go through a progression of button pushing and data entry to get data beyond calories - i.e. carbs and fats. And, feedback is given via different window...

2. Fantastic Scale, Fantastic Company
I researched all the available nutrtion scales on the market and decided on the EatSmart. And what a good choice it's been. It's truly a great product and performs exactly as advertised, providing extensive nutritional information that's not available from any other scale. You'll be amazed at the discrepancies when you compare the actual weight of some foods with what's listed on the nutrition information printed on the package. For example, the information printed for spoon-sized shredded wheat is for a one-cup serving (52 grams). If you weigh the cereal, though, 52 grams is a lot closer to being 3/4 of a cup, not a full cup. Same for potato chips, pretzels and other irregularly shaped foods. And regarding the company that makes the scale: The scale that arrived didn't function properly. I e-mailed the company and within 20 minutes got a phone call from the vice president, who had me do some tests and quickly determined that the scale was defective. He said he'd send a replacement...

Best Digital Scale yet
I originally went to the Cook's Illustrated site to get their recommendation. They said Oxo Good Grips. So did a chef friend. I got it. I'm old and need light to see. I'm taring, putting something into a bowl or tray and then adding something else. The light would go out and I'd have to turn it on again. I measure in grams. OXO thinks I should measure in lbs so it starts each time I turn it on with that measure. I have to reset it to grams. Then as I added material, the scale seemed to take a long time to catch up with the weight of what I was adding. I used that scale for several months but each morning as I used the scale, I started my day frustrated. Enough! Time for a better morning experience!
