This Seltzer Bottles & Chargers give to us some advantages, like this :
1. Favorable initial results; better than Penguin (updated)
We replaced a second Sodastream Penguin with this unit, which uses the same carafes and gas containers. The build quality and design was disappointing with the Penguin. The Crystal improves on the design considerably, which helps circumvent build quality that appears to be similar to the Penguin. The gas valve is operated with a button instead of a lever, which makes the Crystal less cumbersome to operate, and also makes a better fit between the counter and cupboards. The excess gas release is integrated into the removal of the carafe rather than requiring a second button push. Loading and unloading carafes is also more elegant than with the Penguin. Like the Penguin, the back cover and latch that contains the canister feels chincy. The toot noises that indicate gas pressure are funkier and less shrill than the Penguin. All that for 10% lower price. Just finishing the first gas canister so we'll see how it holds up. Although it's a terribly subjective judgment since we didn't keep any...

2. Fast and easy sparkling water in glass
I was torn as to which SodaStream model I should get. I actually tried another model first but the plastic bottles really bothered me. I know they are BPA free but I still don't like the idea of plastic coming into contact with my food. There are a lot of other chemicals in plastic that concern me, aside from BPA.

I was a bit put off by the much higher price for the Crystal vs the cheaper models that come with a plastic bottle. I had trouble justifying paying twice as much just to get a glass bottle. But I knew I would never be comfortable with the plastic so I returned the Fizz I had previously bought and got myself a Crystal SodaStream.

I still feel that this unit is overpriced and preying on those who strongly dislike plastic, but there is nothing wrong with the product itself, so I am giving it 5 stars. I also can see where some of the added cost comes. This model doesn't just have a glass bottle, but the machine completely encases the bottle while it is...

Good product -very unreliable manufacturing
Overall I love the Sodastream products. We drink about 10L a week of bubbled water, and give the prices it goes for in our area, this machine is a great value.

We had a basic Sodastream, but upgraded to this model because of the plastic bottles. Huge mistake. Actually we doubled down and bought one for us and one for the in-laws. Double mistake. Both machines malfunctioned within a month or so of use. (The bubbled water wouldn't be contained in the bottle, but would spray out into the chamber - I'm no technician but I suppose some seal somewhere, somehow broke). But here's the beauty: the replacement machine they sent arrived broken! That's three broken machines in a row. The seem to have some huge quality control issues in making these things.

At the same time, let me praise their customer service. After trying to get us to fix the problem through some stuff they could do, they replace the machines (and then the faulty replacement). No hassles of any kind,...
