This Mandolines & Slicers give to us some advantages, like this :
1. GREAT Cabbage Slicer
This is a heavy duty, sturdy and well made slicer. It is pretty big and I'm pretty small -- my husband has helped me to sturdy the slicer while making cabbage slices for slaw. (He can do it all by himself...) It takes about a minute to go thru a big head of cabbage. The results are nice, thin slices which I think are perfect for slaw or crout. The blades are adjustable but we have never tried to do that. We have only had it for a couple of weeks but have used it for 3 batches of slaw and a few carrots, onions, etc. I keep it stored in the garage with my canners, pressure cookers, etc. We are going to try and find a rectangular plastic storage drawer that we can set it on and apply some non-skid rubber to prevent it from sliding. I have no regrets on this purchase. We found it online at another site which was a tad cheaper than Amazon.com. It pays to shop around!

2. Made in the USA but it acts like a quality European import....
I just bought that tool from another source for under 100 Dollars including the plastic carrier and I was amazed by the quality and the sensibility of the design.

Then I used it. It makes fine shreds, just right for coleslaw but a tad too thin for sauerkraut so I will have to adjust the blades. I have ordered 20 pounds of organic cabbage to make Sauerkraut, it should take about 20 minutes to shred that. Make sure you put the plastic container to catch the sliced cabbage on a chair so you can slice at a comfortable height.

It is easy to clean, rinsing and drying was sufficient. I store it in the box it came in to protect the blades. Now, if I only had one of those pigtail cutters to cut the core out of the cabbage that my grandmother used in Germany...

Need more appointment... ?
Steek cabbage slicer
I used this cabbage slicer this past weekend to make cole slaw. I think it might be slicing it a little thin. Might be too thin for Sauerkraut, also.
But it does work and it's easy to work with. Cleans up easily as well.
