I bought mine expecting to do nice spiral forms, but It requires practice and some time. Stil I don't get what the pictures shows in the ad. Maybe more practice is needed.

Su uso es simple y el personal aprende rapido a trabajar con el, pero las papas grandes se traban y se trabaja mejor con papas medianas.

Food prep is fun, quick and easy with this professional quality stainless steel mandoline food slicer from MIU France. Featuring a julienne blade, straight slicing blade and a piranha micro serrated edge blade exclusive to our mandoline. The micro serrated blade penetrates and slices with ease; you will be amazed at the variety of food creations you can produce. All three cutting blades are built into the mandoline. • Features julienne, serrated and straight blades built into the mandoline.
  • Adjustable blade thickness from paper thin to thick.
  • Create julienne carrots, shoestring french fries, waffle cut potatoes and sliced cucumbers.
  • Professional quality stainless steel construction.
  • Includes safety food holder.

This Mandolines & Slicers give to us some advantages, like this :
1. Heavy Duty, but blades not sharp!
I bought this thinking it would be so much easier than a knife....wrong! it mushed my tomatoes, barely cut my onions. And this is with brand new blades! Ended up giving it to Habitat for humanity. Did not want to put it on ebay due to the dull blades. Waited too long to return it to amazon. Stay away from this one. Ended up buying a swissmar v slicer, cheaper, and works beautifully!

2. Great overall but could be improved.
I love the compactness, ease of use, ergonomics, and durability of this mandolin. However, the large support does not lock into place when it is folded and has a tendency to flop around when being handled. I would recommend some kind of tension lock similar to the one on the short support to keep it in check. I also feel that having the main slicing blade perpendicular to the slicing direction reduces the ease of cutting. Possibly an angle to the blade would make slicing denser tubers such as beets easier. I have a plastic Bron mandoline that has a "V" blade that slices much easier than the MIU slicer.

Go from slice to julienne just by turning the knob!
There are no blades to change out when you want to julienne. All the necessary blades are firmly attached in the mandoline. By removing four (quality-made) cap nuts you can remove the flat slicing blade to sharpen it. If you don't want to sharpen it yourself, the company sells replacement blades. Everything (except for handle, knob, foot grabs and safety guard)is quality stainless steel of a nice thick gauge.

I also have (and had it first) a OXO mandoline with a V slicer. There are too many steps involved in changing out blades to create a julienne cut or a waffle cut, so I just didn't bother doing either--just did straight slicing with the OXO. Now, with this new super-duper mandoline I think I will go julienne-crazy for a while.

Just by turning the knob you can send the mandoline through its paces: From its lock/zero position, turn the knob clock-wise and you are at the position to do a small 1/8" julienne; turn knob again and it will click into position...

==================================================================

Fruit and vegetable slicer.
  • V-shaped blade from cutlery city Thiers, will perfectly slice soft fruit and vegetable
  • Micro-serrated blade for thin slices
  • Thickness easy to adjust (thumb well at the end of the handle), orgonomical (19,3 ° angle of the handle)
  • Compact (puher clips under the slicer for easy storage)
  • Safe (protective pusher + anti-sliding handle), stable (anti-skid feet)

This Mandolines & Slicers give to us some advantages, like this :
1. Great product, but PLEASE use the safety!!
I love this product. I've had it for over a year and it works wonderfully. I ALWAYS use that safety piece, but back in February I was in a hurry, slicing onions and sliced the entire top of my finger and fingernail off. I was taken to the emergency room and they couldn't get the bleeding to stop so it had to be cauterized. OUCH! It took about 4 weeks to heal and I still have numbness.

I'm telling you this because I wouldn't wish this on anyone. I have used my slicer since, with great caution. It really is a good slicer.

2. Lasted less than 1 year
Purchased last year...worked well for first 8 months or so then the adjustment knob broke and i can no longer adjust the thickness of slices...too much of a pain to return...will just have to try another brand.

Bron Original Stainless Steel Mandolin Slicer

Cheapest Bron Original Stainless Steel Mandolin Slicer
==================================================================

The Original Bron Mandoline slicer made in France! Built for professionals but at home in any gourmet lovers kitchen. It can slice, julienne, chip, waffle, and ripple cut as thick or thin as you need. A classic French design, this modern version is made from stainless steel.Slice cucumbers or julienne carrots with this versatile mandolin from the original mandolin manufacturer--Ambrunn Bron. It’s the perfect tool for cutting vegetables, cheese, and meat, plus is great for slicing hard fruits, ...
  • Comes with three adjustable blades and adjustable lever settings
  • Many combinations for hundreds of varieties of cuts
  • Saftey guard for hands
  • Folds flat for storage
  • Classic French design made in Stainless Steel

This Mandolines & Slicers give to us some advantages, like this :
1. Great and infinitely adjustable
I have used many different slicers (V-type, diagonal) and this stainless steel Bron which I also own is my favorite by far. The Borner V slicer I own does not have legs and is thus unstable, it is okay for quick non-uniform shredding and slicing. This model has it's own legs so your two hands can focus on the cutting. If you simply pay attention to where the blades are (put the cell phone down), you shouldn't cut yourself. It has a sliding guard for the food to rest in which attaches to the mandoline (which in the picture of the item is shown attached upside-down) and I believe to be safer than the free floating guards of the others. One plus of the steel construction is absolutely true uniform slices which are produced, which has not been experienced with plastic slicers. If you have the money, it is a great investment that should last you your lifetime.

2. Easy to Use and Easy Storage
Realy happy with the perfomance of this mandoline so far. Had it for about 2 weeks now and it is way better than the last mandoline I owned. Of course it was a bit more expensive than the last one but well worth it to me. I saw one in local store at nearly double the price ($280.00) so $150.00 was a great deal.

The safety gaurd is easy to use and solid stainless construction. The last one I owned had a cheap plastic gaurd and it was not guided on rails like this one. The guided safety gaurd prevents slipping when cutting hard root vegetables and damaging the blade (or myself).

The blades for this one are all self contained on the madonline and rotate and lock into position. The straight blade is very sharp so be sure to raise the upper sliding surface above the blade to avoid cutting yourself when haddling/storing the item.

Storage - Really happy that all of the blades and the gaurd can store together on the machine. It looks good left out in the...

The Original for a reason, It just simply works!
After much research this was my first choice until actually using the de Buyer dicing mandoline form William and Sonoma. I knew I wanted a quality and versatile mandoline that would last for years to come as well as do the job with consistent results. I've used two other mandolines, the OXO mandoline and de Buyer dicing mandoline, this is the only one that will give consistent slicing thickness at 1mm or less thickness between slices as well as from one end to the other end of the slice (where most failed continually)

It's not made clear on amazon.com but this particular Bron mandoline come with the 10mm and 3mm julienne blades. 2mm blades would be nice sometimes but cutting 3mm x 1mm yields a similar cut that is nice in its own right. You can always purchase the blade set with the 2mm and (8mm / 4.5mm) blades separately. This brings me to a fantastic attribute to this mandoline. If you somehow break something you can purchase every single part separately...

  • 4 different stainless steel blades make the turning slicer great for many types of produce
  • Very easy to use, simple turn of the handle gives a very professional looking spiral cut
  • Sturdy plastic design is very durable
  • Much faster than hand slicing- "50 servings in 5 minutes"
  • Made in Japan

This Mandolines & Slicers give to us some advantages, like this :
1. Amazing little gadget
I had some zucchini angel hair with pesto at a potluck and was so amazed by it, I have been seeking the right tool for the job ever since. The little Joyce Chen gadget many seem to rave about gets such mixed reviews, I was afraid to try it. When I came upon the Benriner, I was sure I knew which brand I wanted - but was not sure whether I should go with the cook help (upright) model or the horizontal model.

I couldn't really find anything comparing the two. Best I could tell, they were the same, but one you pushed down on, and the other you pushed sideways one. The most compelling reasons to go with the upright model seemed to be cost and it seems like it should be easier to push down, than sideways. The most compelling reason to go with the horizontal model were the pile could grow bigger as you worked and you wouldn't have to move the unit, you could use bigger chunks of vegetables, and it seemed you could do a cabbage. I could not find a picture of cabbage being...

2. Innovative, but over-priced
This is a very innovative gadget. It will turn any firm vegetable (eggplant, e.g.) into spaghetti-like strands that can be deep-fried and plated for a stunning effect. It has several different serrated blades, so the dimension of the strands can be changed. The base and most of the components for this device are light-weight plastic. Although the Kanekichi is cleverly engineered, placing a vegetable in the 'sled' and turning the handle, I found I had to apply some pressure to get it to move through the blades - a little awkward since the device is light enough to slide around on the table top. Also, anything moderatly 'squishy' isn't going to work well. This does seem sturdier than the Joyce Chen model, based on reviews of the latter. However at $75, the Kanekichi is seriously over-priced, unless you're truly desparate for a device that will turn vegetables into attractive ribbons.

If you can't figure this out, I don't know what to tell you.
Just got done with my first try with the BN5. It couldn't have been easier. I don't know how anyone is having trouble keeping the slicer from moving around: Just use both hands. One hand to turn the crank and the other to hold the blade mast and push the crank carriage, with an easy pinch movement. Perhaps if you had very small hands, or were trying to slice an extremely dense and woody vegetable it would be a problem. However, I put a zucchini through with a feather touch, no problems. The noodles turned out better than expected and actually tasted almost like pasta once sauced up right. I cooked for two minutes this time, but may try a bit less to see if I can get the zucchini to stay a little more firm, if that's possible.

Construction of the device is substantial. It's "plastic", which I'm thinking is ABS by the looks of it, and does not feel cheap at all. In any case, it seems like it would be near impossible to break this slicer. Changing or cleaning blades is a snap...

Straight, serrated and two different wavy blades can be set to any slice thickness and are ideal for making cucumber salad, potato chips, onion rings, waffle fries and citrus slices. • Makes thin julienne strips and French fries
  • Soft, easy-turn dial for selecting slice thickness or thin or thick julienne strips
  • Unused side of blade is hidden for safety
  • Body and food holder are to-rack dishwasher safe. Blades are hand wash only

This Mandolines & Slicers give to us some advantages, like this :
1. Big Disappointment
I purchased this OXO Steel Chef's Mandoline Slicer after reading the reviews - and ignoring the negative ones. OXO makes great products so I thought the negative reviews must be incorrect BUT they are right on. First I noticed the main slicing blade had 6 or 7 nicks on it after slicing potatoes and yams just four times. OXO does not sell a replacement for this important blade. Next I tried the julienne blades. What a joke. I managed to julienne a turnip but the yellow pepper was beyond its capabilities. In addition, while I was trying to do this, the food holder fell apart in my hand. My husband reassembled it and set it on the counter where it fell apart again just sitting there. While this mandoline looks nice it is cheaply made, especially the important parts - the cutting blades. I returned this product, and I hope I get a refund.

2. Smooth Slicer
I just started using my new Chef's Steel OXO Mandoline Slicer for Thanksgiving preparation. First of all the packaging of this product is not only beautiful but also a useful box to store the slicer in. The pictures and key inside of the food sliced in varieties of ways is easy to follow and gives the cook great ideas. My kids are now eating radishes that were sliced using the crinkle slicer. I think all slicers take some practice to use, but I was able to fit 2 large radishes side by side on the food holder and slice away. The holder moves smoothly over the slicer and you can cut quite quickly. And I wanted to try cutting a potato in a waffle cut and I did it!! After one potato I really had the method down and couldn't wait for some salt and vinegar. I am excited to see what else I can make on my Mandoline. Great for soups and it really makes the food look pretty with a pleasing texture on the tongue. I found the slicers to be very sharp without too much elbow grease needed. Happy...

Company slipped on this one
I am scared to death of mandolins. My fingers go into a ball when I even see one on the shelf. With the Kim Chee and sauerkraut I've been making I needed to break out of my shell and buy one. This on the surface was a wonderful design. I was so excited and felt safe just having it in my kitchen. All sharp blades pull in and out of the base so what is left is the base and some free standing blades. So much easier. Wish the product was as good as the design. The blade is non sharping so it won't last and the carrots I put through the julianne slicer wouldn't pass through. Too dull? I got half the carrot through the machine and then the fingers of the guard just sliced grooves through the carrot leaving me without the ability to make the pass unless I used my hand. Not why I bought this machine. I'm on the hunt for a SHARP one that makes me feel safe. I returned it.

TSM Products Stainless Steel Cabbage Slicer

Cheapest TSM Products Stainless Steel Cabbage Slicer
==================================================================

Surpasses traditional wooden models. Large hopper holds cabbage or lettuce in place while slicing for making sauerkraut or coleslaw. 304 stainless steel construction. Easy to clean. Dishwasher safe. Will not rust.
  • Extra large hopper for holding large heads of cabbage or lettuce
  • 304 stainless steel
  • Dishwasher Safe
  • Easy to clean
  • Will not rust

This Mandolines & Slicers give to us some advantages, like this :
1. GREAT Cabbage Slicer
This is a heavy duty, sturdy and well made slicer. It is pretty big and I'm pretty small -- my husband has helped me to sturdy the slicer while making cabbage slices for slaw. (He can do it all by himself...) It takes about a minute to go thru a big head of cabbage. The results are nice, thin slices which I think are perfect for slaw or crout. The blades are adjustable but we have never tried to do that. We have only had it for a couple of weeks but have used it for 3 batches of slaw and a few carrots, onions, etc. I keep it stored in the garage with my canners, pressure cookers, etc. We are going to try and find a rectangular plastic storage drawer that we can set it on and apply some non-skid rubber to prevent it from sliding. I have no regrets on this purchase. We found it online at another site which was a tad cheaper than Amazon.com. It pays to shop around!

2. Made in the USA but it acts like a quality European import....
I just bought that tool from another source for under 100 Dollars including the plastic carrier and I was amazed by the quality and the sensibility of the design.

Then I used it. It makes fine shreds, just right for coleslaw but a tad too thin for sauerkraut so I will have to adjust the blades. I have ordered 20 pounds of organic cabbage to make Sauerkraut, it should take about 20 minutes to shred that. Make sure you put the plastic container to catch the sliced cabbage on a chair so you can slice at a comfortable height.

It is easy to clean, rinsing and drying was sufficient. I store it in the box it came in to protect the blades. Now, if I only had one of those pigtail cutters to cut the core out of the cabbage that my grandmother used in Germany...

Steek cabbage slicer
I used this cabbage slicer this past weekend to make cole slaw. I think it might be slicing it a little thin. Might be too thin for Sauerkraut, also.
But it does work and it's easy to work with. Cleans up easily as well.
