This Paring Knives give to us some advantages, like this :
1. Great knife ... but not worth the price
Let me first say that the Shun knives, including the 3 1/2 in paring knife, are fantastic. They are the sharpest kitchen knives around and hold an edge very well. The craftsmanship and quality are also extremely good.

However, a $45 paring knife does not make sense unless price is no object for you. You can get a Forschner 3 1/2 inch paring knife (rated number 1 by Cook's Illustrated) for $4.95, a tenth of the cost of this knife. As an owner of both knives, I can say that the Forschner is almost as sharp as the Shun and more comfortable to hold. Certainly the Shun is not 10 times as better as the Forschner.

It should also be noted that the prices on all the Shun knives have gone up after Alton Brown started promoting them. This paring knife was $30 a year ago when I bought it.

In summary, if price is no object for you and you want the best paring knife you can get, buy this knife. Otherwise, I would think twice before making this purchase.

2. Shun Knives are Beautiful, Elegant, and the Sharpest around
I have a whole set of these blades, so I'm breaking down my review to two parts: Review of the Shun Classic Blades, and the portion as it pertains to this knife in particular.

I absolutely love this knife and it's my second most used knife. My first most used is my work horse, the Shun Ken Onion 8" Chef's Knife. There are many small tasks that the Paring Knife is a must for though, and that's when I grab this one. When you want to trim a nice piece of meat, rib a green pepper, etc...you don't want a big knife, you need this little one. It's little, but so sharp that it slices through anything like butter, making prep work so easy and enjoyable.

Shun knives are beautiful creations period. Since I'm Asian, I love the tradition look and feel of this Japanese knife. I love the beauty of the blade and the dark, polished, Pakkawood handle. The unique "D"-shaped, Wood handles are preferable. The shape fits my hand perfectly, and the wood does not get slippery when...

1. POOR FIT & SIZING
Pay attention to the picture, which shows this ill-fitting glove gaping at the wrist while not long enough in the fingers. It is truly that way on the hand. In action, this means that paint, joint compound, or dirt will fall down past the wrist into the hand, giving you very poor protection. (I use nitrile gloves when I need fine-fingered control for painting, spackling, or working with tiny garden seedlings, although you'd have the same trouble with liquids, lotions, etc. if working with patients.) Too, while I have always used "smalls" in nitrile gloves, this Robust brand is sized like a medium, so it doesn't fit as snugly as it should. I recommend that you DO NOT buy these cheap-fitting gloves if you want the real protection that you normally get, want, and expect from nitrile gloves.

2. I wish it had a longer cuff
I have used it to keep hands clean while handling raw meat and camping. Works fine. 5 stars if it had longer cuffs.

1. Great replacement grate
We own a Kenmore grill which had really terrible grates. This was one of Kenmore's removable grate system that we thought would work out well. But the grates that came with the grill were not working for us. They were wider than normal grids and heat distribution was a problem. As a result of that, food would get stuck on it and it was close to impossible to clean them. And of course cleaning them after every grill use was just a waste of time. Didn't leave me any time to enjoy an extra beer :).

But these grates are nice. They are close to what you get with a Weber or a more expensive grill. They are cast iron and porcelain coated which makes for even heat distribution. We threw some steaks on them right out of the box and they worked fantastic. Also, they come in three separate pieces and were a perfect fit for our grill. I would highly recommend these as replacement grill grates.

2. Don't expect more than 1 year.
These fit my grill perfectly but with a single year of garage stored use the enamel is chipping off the grates.

Exactly what I ordered
Came in a timely manner, and was exactly what I ordered. It was well packaged and fit the grill. I forgot how well my grill worked when the parts are clean. I would recommend getting new insides at least every two years.

1. Solid rocker
Rocking chair was easy to assemble and is seemingly high quality, and comfortable to sit and rock in. We have had it in our living room for a couple of years now with no noticeable wear. The only thing sort of strange is that the seat is not secured to the frame at all. This is not a safety concern because the seat cannot come off but some times when you stand up the seat will come off the frame and make a loud whack as it slams back to the base. All in all I would recommend this chair and would purchase again if I needed a rocking chair.

comfy rocker
This rocking chair is exactly what I was expecting. It was simple to put together, took maybe 20 minutes without any power tools. Everything came together nicely and did not require force. I have this chair out on my apartment balcony and it is quite comfy to sit in and read a book on the balcony. The seat part is not fastened down, but I have not had any issues with it sticking to me, or otherwise coming off. When sitting in the chair it feels solid and well balanced. And leaning back in the chair, I do not feel like I am going to tip over.

[Update: after using it more than two years, it's still going strong. We've not had to sharpen or replace the blade. All I've done to maintain it is add a little oil a couple of times a year to keep it turning easy. Well, if you're reading this review after browsing to the Edlund #1 Commercial Can Opener (with base), then I'll assume you fall into one of three categories: you're involved in food service somewhere (e.g., restaurant, soup kitchen), you have a large family that uses a lot of institutional sized (10#) cans, or you are wondering if something like this might work for someone with arthritis. I find myself in the latter two categories.

This opener brought to an end our practice of buying and wearing out traditional, hand-held can openers. We're a big family and open a lot of institutional sized cans. I have no complaints. This opener can...

2. Edlund Can Opener
All around a pretty good opener. I found you must drop the blade down pretty hard for it to work properly but that is not really any big deal. It would not turn the can unless the blade is seated all the way down into a can. I would recommend this because I had several cheaper openers before this one and they were all a waste of money. This one seems well made and looks like it should last. I would buy it again, if I needed a second opener.

Our church ordered an Edlund Commercial Can Opener #1 with plated base. It arrived promptly and has been installed in our church kitchen. It is the best and most durable can opener we have used. This is what we were looking for after one of our volunteers was injured on a large can lid while using one of those hand held openers. His trip to the emergency room cost $thousands. This Edlund opener will prevent a reoccurrence.

Space case is the best but not a fan of the new color
If you're here, you know Space Case grinders are the best quality on the market. Precision milling, long lasting sharpness and durability. The quality is unmatched.

The only thing is, the old deep magenta color was so much more attractive than the new black finish. No other grinders were that color using high quality materials. Still a 5 star product though.
